OL 125 Module Five Short Response
Organizations can influence motivation in a number of ways. There are need based motivators
and results driven motivators. The most obvious motivators in my opinion are monetary rewards;
this can take the form of pay increases and/or bonuses related to performance and non-monetary
rewards such as leadership recognition for a job well done. To create a more positive
environment and increase employee motivation we started a comment card system where
employees can write congratulatory notes to each other for a job well done. While this is a nonmonetary reward we found it had a positive effect on employee motivation and moral. People
were more conscious of their day to day behavior and ethics because not only can management
use these cards but also our peers. Even your neighbor at the desk next to you could write you a
compliment card. We then posted them in a public place for everyone to see after they had been
delivered to the recipient.
Organizations and organizational leaders can minimize workplace stress by controlling conflict
within the workplace, communicating clearly with staff, and being understanding that their
employees are only human. Working in customer service I often come across situations where
customers are irate, this puts stress on ourselves as leaders within the call center and our phone
staff, if we have a difficult call it’s acceptable to walk away for a moment when it’s completed to
re-collect yourself before speaking with the next customer. We believe this is essential to ensure
our customers receive good service and helps to keep employee stress lower. We also have an
open door policy with all of our management team, at any time you can discuss your concerns
with management and we are completely open to new suggestions and feedback.
As a leader it is very important that I prioritize my time efficiently, often many of the projects I
am working on are needed by other individuals or departments, and if I do not complete these
tasks in a timely fashion then I am also causing delays for others. I also believe it is important to
lead by example. Unfortunately I do work in an environment where constant interruption is a
factor, when a critical issue has a very specific deadline I will put a support team in place to deter
the distractions I typically face on a day to day basis. This may include working in a space away
from distraction or working remotely from home.
OL 125 Module Five Short Response Guidelines and Rubric
Overview: With unstable economies becoming increasingly more common, businesses look to different aspects of their company to save money, improve
performance, and boost their position amongst their competitors. One of the most important areas of focus is human relations, which directly influences
productivity, motivation, and employee retention. In order for you to succeed professionally, you will need to develop a special set of human relations skills that

You have learned about theories of motivation, the experience of conflict, negotiation processes, and methods for making effective decisions. This assessment
