Unit 3: How Do We Transcend Borders? Should We Transcend Them?
Background: In both Enrique’s Journey and Cucinella’s edited work Border Crossings, we have
read different reactions, definitions, and results for crossing borders. Some results include
joining a community, blurring definitions of what a border actually means, correcting
misinterpretations, directly stating and standing by ones definition, or socially distancing oneself
by redirecting the problem with borders to a more pertinent and reasonable challenge. Whether
we are Richard Rodriguez, assessing a situation and denying access to a particular culture, or we
have our own way of assessment, this final paper is all about your own analytical argument
research question that is more about exploration than one simple truth.
Task: In an in-depth analytical research paper of seven to eight pages, explore the

Bilingual Education in Public School Systems
Minimum Requirements:





Write an argumentative analytical research paper at least 7 pages long, but no longer than
8 pages.
Write a research proposal in your introduction that includes what you intend to discover,
such as “This paper will explore….”
Write a unified thesis with an inductive thesis at the end of your paper in the final
paragraph.
Write body paragraphs with clear supporting points.
Write body paragraphs with TEA.




Each paragraph should be ½ a page to ¾ of a page.
Use proper MLA citations as show in class. (bibliography=Works Cited)
For your bibliography, you need at least 8 sources, 5 of them from your own personal
research!
Follow appropriate forms of syntax and grammar.
Guidelines for a Successful Essay:




Meet the minimum requirements.
Focus on the questions and explore different types of figurative language.
Write in a formal language that is appropriate, as discussed in class.
Spend some time reflecting on the advertising assignment for inspiration.
